Latin America Spanish and Spain Spanish, the differences.
This question, about the differences between the two variation of the Spanish language, comes up frequently. Many prospective learners have heard that there are huge differences in the languages and studying the wrong version will do no good to them.
This is not totally accurate, the differences between the Spanish language spoken in South America and the version spoken in Europe is something similar to the British English and the American English. Despite having regional differences the two variation are mutually intelligible. In other words an Argentinean traveling to Spain will be able to make him or herself understood, in fact people from the Spanish speaking world can communicate between themselves without restriction.
The differences are mainly regional and this does not restrict communication.
Some
of the differences are in the pronunciation of the S, C Y and H. There
are minor differences in the grammar, especially regarding the formal
forms of speech, however the grammar tends to be very similar.
Perhaps the main differences are in the vocabulary. This happens with
other language as well as the speakers of the same language tend to
have different words for the same concept or object.
