The Spanish Class - learning a Language Faqs -

What is the communicative task based method?

The video below gives a good idea of the methodology that we use, the example is made with students learning English, however it can be used and applied virtually for all language learning.

Are your teachers native Spanish speakers?

Yes they are, we employ the best teachers who are available in London, we select teachers who  have a degree in humanities, they also have been trained to teach their mother tongue to speakers of other language, and they have substantial experience in the field.
We also constantly re-train them, observing their lessons and giving them feedback and also we ask the students to provide feedback about their learning experience.

Is there a difference between Latin America Spanish and Spain Spanish?

Essentially they remained the same language throughout time and they are totally intelligible to speakers of either language. However there are  some differences in  the pronunciation of some of the letters of the alphabet, and there are some local differences in the  vocabulary. Our courses cover all these differences and you will be able to speak both in Spain and South America with confidence.

What is like learning a new language? Is it difficult?

We are all born with the ability to learn a language, as children we learn our native complex language from our parents without much effort. We use the communicative task based method that we believe  it is the best and most modern methodology available today. In short the teacher using the target language (Spanish) assign tasks to the students and the student interactively have to solve these  problems.
The teacher will present to the class the new structures and vocabulary then he or she will ask you to use it to complete a task such as ordering food, organising a trip, shopping, or attending a job interview. Obviously the lessons are gradual and you will be presented structures suitable for your level. The method try to recreate real life situations where there is the need to communicate, however you will practice under a teacher controlled environment, therefore receiving feedback and corrections.

How long before I am fluent?

It is very difficult to answer this question as it is down to each personal case. Some students will pick up it faster other will take longer. Some students experience a "silence period". The students are in fact learning but unable to speak this is due to the human brain re-wiring itself to accommodate the new language. To learn faster and achieve fluency you should keep your motivation high, practice everyday, travel often, have Spanish friends, attend your classes every week and do your homework

Why should I study Spanish?

Spanish is an incredibly popular language today, people study it for travel, family/partner reasons, it is cool to speak Spanish, better career prospects, to keep the brain active, to do something after work, to meet people.

Can I pay by instalments?

Unfortunately we cannot take instalments however you can purchase your course by credit card.

What kind of courses do you provide?

We have once a week evening courses, twice a week evening courses, intensive weekend on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as Monday to Friday courses.

Do you provide a course book with the Spanis lessons?

Normally we will provide photocopied handouts as part of the course. We will also recommend a book should you wish to purchase one.

What course levels do you provide in London?

We follow the European Framework for languages. It is now common to all language schools to use this level structure, if you study with us at any level you will find a correspondent level in other institutions.
For example A1 is the beginner level, A2 is the following one and B1, B2 are the intermediate levels. C1 and C2 are the advanced levels.

Will I receive a certificate at the end of my Spanish course?

Yes we will give you an attendance certificate with your score and recommendation about improving further your Spanish language skills. Also remember that our courses prepare automatically for formal exams should you wish to take one. This is because we follow the European Framework for languages.
